San Rafael, Mendoza, Argentina
An interesting fact:
I’m a music fanatic and my collection of vinyl records has accompanied me here to my island home - I just couldn’t part with them!
I never travel without:
My wife (to remember the passports), my daughter (to provide the entertainment) and my Bose noise-cancelling headphones (for when I’ve had enough of both of them!).
Your favourite Maldivian food:
I love anything with a touch of spice, so tuna curries are a must. But my favourite thing has to be picking a coconut, lopping the top off and drinking the refreshing coconut water inside. Nothing else could be so simple, so tasty and so incredibly hydrating and healthy.
Things I love about Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa:
Our Maldivian associates are a joy to work with, so proud of their country, this property and always with a smile and genuine desire to make our guests happy. I also love how this magical property holds surprises at every turn - the incredible wildlife both on the island and in the sea, our pristinely healthy reef and the incredible sight of the brightest stars at night all make this hotel absolutely one of a kind.
My career journey:
I’ve had a career full of ups, downs and ups again - not necessarily the typical path! I worked in a variety of hotels and ski centres while studying Hotel Management at university. Luckily for me, just as I was graduating, Park Hyatt Mendoza was opening in my home province and I had the chance to join the team there. It was a decision which would well and truly decide the direction of my career, as I have been a ‘Hyatt man’ ever since. I rose through a number of roles in Housekeeping and Front Office, before being offered the opportunity to transfer to Grand Hyatt Dubai. However, back then I couldn’t speak a word of English - so I was taken on as a GSO, taking me all the way back to an entry level position while I learned the language. Once again, I worked hard and rose back up through the ranks before taking the role of Front Office Manager at the incredible Park Hyatt Shanghai. Director of Rooms and Executive Assistant Manager followed in Shanghai, before I found myself here as GM of the breathtaking Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa.
A day in the life of Mariano:
Each day begins in much the same way - a wake-up call from my bouncing toddler daughter shouting “Daddy!” through the bedroom door! But after breakfast and morning briefing, the day can hold anything - catching up with guests, floating in a dinghy checking that our water villas are in pristine working order, spotting beautiful baby reef sharks from the jetty, hosting an evening cocktail or - sometimes - even sitting at a desk and typing emails. It can’t all be fun and games! But whatever happens during my day, I always feel so lucky to be living in such an incredibly beautiful and unique part of the world.
